Frank,

I've been thinking along similar lines since seeing Dale's pots at
ETHOS. There might be a significant per-unit cost involved to produce a
pot with fins and an outer jacket, but it may turn out to be worth it
from a fuel usage and cleanliness perspective. The big advantage (other
than phenomenal heat transfer efficiency) is that if done correctly, the
outside of the "pot" (actually the built-in insulating jacket) would
never get sooty, and the nice shiny metal that so many people find
attractive would stay nice and shiny. The jacket would also protect the
fins from impact and abuse. It would be interesting to get a production
cost estimate and see if the expense is worth it.
