NO! O.k, I suppose it depends on what you might need any excess heat
for. Some vented stoves need a minimum temperature to maintain
sufficient draft, but with a ventless stove, I am guessing that it
wouldn't require alot of heat, or you could always use a fan.
"If the temperature of the gases get below 100 deg. C at the exit will
there be a lot of moisture and tar forming on the pot?"
Ideally, perfect combustion should leave no condensate other than,
perhaps, water. Realistically? Scrub the residue off between meals if
it builds up too much, though it might make for some entertainment if it
caught on fire.
"We had a very small fire and the gas on exit was hot but not real hot"
Maybe try a bigger, hotter fire? More is better -- right? :-)
For my suggested experiment, I suppose you could even try a freestanding
coil of heavy wire (baling wire would probably work) set snugly against
the pot. IIRC, the turbulence created is supposed to increase the heat
transfer.
