I feel that any technology that is not appropriate technology is, be
definition, inappropriate technology.

'Appropriate' does not mean low tech. It is whatever is most appropriate.

One of the things I like about the stoves we have seen developed in the past
few years is that a very high level of science is incorporated into the
combustion and air feeding processes.  This is what I call taking science to
hearth!

There is a lot of recent understanding of how to evaluate the performance as
well, leading to better models for comparing technologies and changes to
them. 

Wonderful to see.
