Great videos!

Also, and do not know if this has any relevance to your temperature
measurements, but BS 2790:1992 "Specification for Design and manufacture of
shell boilers of welded construction, Appendix C Calculation of tube plate
temperatures" when talking about measuring gas temperature at the tube plate
says:

"The gas temperature t sub G at the tube entry shall be the true value as
would be measured by a multishield high velocity suction pyrometer (an
ordinary thermocouple will always read low; error may be up to 300 degrees
C)."

Perhaps some of the low reading comes for being in proximity of the
relatively cooler tube plate but that is just a guess on my part.
