I've no experience but have seen one working making smokeless coal
from coal dust (called phurnacite in uk). At the time they were
experimenting with it to densify paper and plastic was for a form of
refuse derived power station fuel, the operator describe getting the
variables right as a "black art".

Elsen Karlsted also imported a similar machine to Kenya, part of his
chardust operation, I think he gave up with it. 

It looks like the crux of operating these is that the cohesiveness of
the mixture must exceed the adhesion to the rollers.
