Dear Frank and Crispin,
VW has a 4 wire Lambda sensor Nr 0525 .
BOSCH LAMBDA sensors are a few mm thick ZIRCONIUMOXYDE CERAMIC
reaction time 100ms 350° C heater =13 ohm 20° C =3 ohm
SIEMENS LAMBDA sensors are CeO2,SrTiO3, BaTiO3 on Al2O3 1um thick
reaction time few ms . 1000 °C and regulated to that !
If we call it AIR / FUEL ratio sensor,Frank ,it is beter to understand .
Suppose zero millivolt is only CO2 + N2
40 mV = 20 % O2 seems 2mV / % O2 Polarity NEGATIVE
640 mV = 100 % C7H16 seems 6,4 mV / % CxHy POSITIVE
See it as a servo system with the controller . Only the zero direction
regulaion or the cleanest motorconditions are of interests .
uProcessor with 250 K memory is programed this way, with all corrections .

icle/wbo2/default.htm sels low cost sensors and display.
Cheaper solution is calibration with 5 gas mixtures .
Leaded fuel can damage the sensor .
Greetings
Frans
