Gerald Tenywa writes on how the masses are coping."Most Kampala
residents have shifted from using electricity to charcoal, previously
regarded as a cheap source of energy for the poor. But the charcoal
prices have doubled within less than a year."

===Rwanda: Cost of gas to decrease this year===

George Kagame writes in The New Times: "Kigali - Beginning this year,
government is set to introduce incentives for importers of cooking
gas, by reducing its levies on the product to make it affordable for
many Rwandans."

The study, which claims to be "the first comparative evaluation of
proposed large-scale energy solutions to global warming, air
pollution, and energy security", considered the implications of using

2008===

Wim van Nes from the Netherlands Development Programme (SNV) has sent
us the proceedings of their (SNV) international workshop on the
financing of domestic biogas plants, which took place on October
22-23, 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand.
