yes i agree.
here in the gambia we found that only in the urban areas where plenty of
paper is available in more or less concentrated locations it makes
commercial sense to use paper as a binder for centralised mass production
otherwise the high collection transport costs mean that we are not
competitive against wood.
we are just now negotiating with a commercial waste collector to collect and
sort on our behalf and deliver to our facility - on the return journey they
take the finished bricks and deliver them back to the original customers if
they have a need in their commercial kitchens. in terms of recycling this is
the most complete circle and a fantastic marketing tool for all partners
involved and there may be a way to replicate this on a more local level
using the normal donkey cart rubbish man both as collector and distributor
cutting transport costs by half.

Crispin et al,
Would also add that some of the cartonboard and heavier–usually
wrapping/packing– papers, use nasty glues which when pulped make the
mass gelatinous and serve as great binding agent but they stink and
cause the brriquette to just smolder when burned. Tricky stuff papar.
Durina a typical training the trainees will happily jump into paper
because of the ease with which it breaks doen and binds up the
mass.. They thye run out of paper a few months on and grind to a
halt. Some donors actually run wastepaper back and forth to sustain
them, otherwise they have to get to briquetting 202, which is hte
real stuff of using agro residues. Its like graduating fomr
Mcdonalds fast food to a fancy restaurent ! Where aromas are involved
different heats are generated.
