The story I read about this, in a newspaper more than 30 years ago, 
explained that a power company--Ontario Hydro--had run some power lines 
across a farmer's property. He built something equivalent to a large 
guitar pickup and erected this near to, but not touching, the 
transmission lines, and used the electricity induced in the pickup.
He was sued, but I don't recall the outcome of the case.
