Heidi;
You do understand that the straw bales of a "living roof" will _not_ be
providing your ceiling with any insulation to speak of. Right ?
Nor will the bales be providing much in the way of thermal mass to reduce
the cooling load in summer, in the manner that the 4-6" deep lighwieght
growing mediums of Green roofs do.
About the only thing I can think of that a strawbale Living Roof does that
a Green roof doesn't do, is create the potential for a greater live load
(ie soggy/matted composting straw)
requiring beefier roof structure to support it.
