I think a lot, haven't done anything yet. I have thought of building a much like the design mentioned, but with wood pillars (read tree trunks) spaced out inside roof to support the roof and second floor loads. Sort of an extremely sturdy pole barn. I thought of keeping the major supports inside the house, which I would then wrap with strawbale, but keep it well under the roof to allow a porch. If more rectangular, incorporate two masonry heaters as walls/supports at about 25% and 75% of the long dimensional distance, figuring that would be the end walls of the upstairs.
I may not be explaining this very well, it is more organized in my head. The strawbale walls would not bear any loads, not because I dont' think it works, but to make the tie in to the roof as easy as possible. Because the roof is self supporting, the load bearing structure can be built, then used to house the bales for the wall building. Maybe a radiant barrier below the roofing (metal roof will last longer), then a strawbale celing hanging from roof supports, then sprayed to look like many textured celings. Could angle slightly toward interior, to enhance heat transfer to second floor for winter, or for heat to be exhausted in summer.
I gotta get to work, tell me what I haven't thought of that makes this a really bad idea. I don't have an ego, really let it rip.
