I don't know what Dan wrote and I don't know the context in which he was  
speakign when he wrote/said it but:

If one doesn't have a means to utilise the huge amounts of energy that  
such spaces generate, and/or if doesn't have a means of preventing  
unwanted solar gain
and/or if the sunspace was inappropriately scaled WRT the the space which  
it adjoins
and/or if one has no means to control the flow of energy to and from the  
sunspace
... then yes, overheating would be an issue, in the same sense that  
stepping on the accelerator pedal in an automobile could presesnt a BIG  
"speed issue".

In both cases, it's not an issue if the result of your actions was  
intended and expected.
