[Strawbale] cement stucco problems? cob/cement problems *off topic*

Hi,
There has been an on going debate about the problems
associated with cob/Portland cement mix. They were
saying that Portland cement changes the pH which
destroys the structural integrity of cob, depending on
the pH of the cob, as I understand it. This premise
may call into question rammed earth and earth bag
construction that often mix Portland cement without
testing/adjusting pH. Some people who make concrete
foundation use tar or something in the joint to
isolate the 2 materials from each other because they
may react when being in contact with each other.
