[Strawbale] cold room question

We are planning to build with a partial basement. The way the plans
work out, there is room in the center back (toward the north) of the house for a
cool storage room for food on the main floor, with the north wall behind it
bermed. I don't know enough to make the best decisions, though.

Would a main floor cool storage room be notably cooler if there were no
basement beneath it but rather the earth?

For humidity, for storing vegetables, I am thinking a dirt floor is
good?

Would it work to have a root cellar under it, in addition, for things
that need to be moister? Would that result in a warmer first-floor space?

If we don't use this space for cool storage I don't know what to use it
for. It is 6 X 12. A good size for cool storage, but not for anything
else I can think of.

     Thanks,
     Shivani in WI
