Here in the South Central B.C. interior, the summer sun can heat up 
water in a black 50' garden hose until it's hot enough to scald an 
uncautious person...and that's with the hose lying on the ground, which 
can suck some of the heat out of it.
One neighbour down the highway, at 'Sandblast Flats,' put a bunch of 
black plastic pipe on the roof of their modular home, and they run water 
through it to raise the temps in their hot-tub and lengthen the tubbing 
season.
With a nickname like Sandblast Flats, you can understand why they have 
to change the water in their tub regularly, even though it's covered 
most of the time. :-)
