Stating the obvious; having high R value walls is
great but is only dealing with part of the insulation
envelope, the easiest part but not the most important
part. Any breaks or bridging reduce energy efficiency.
High R value seems to be a big reason people are
attracted to SB building, is it unfounded in most
cases? Perhaps getting low cost or free building
material is the motivation for SB construction, which
is fine, and that would be a good way to market it
instead of as a high R value structure, which in the
most important ways it isn't, in most cases.
