> So, what is the romance name for straw bale?
Starting with French, one of the Romance languages, how about
balle de paille = (a) bale of straw. (paille would sound quite similar
to "pie" in English...)
Maison de paille.=(a) house of straw.
Palais de paille= Straw palace. ( Nice word play there.)
Spanish, not only a Romance language, but a loving tongue...:
paja = straw ( pronounced pa-hah, I think...)
bala de la paja = straw bale
casa de la paja = house of straw. Presumably this could be transmuted
into 'pajacasa.' (pa-ha-casa)
palacio de la paja = palace of straw, or straw palace.
Or you could go the high-tech sounding route, and use something like
Hybrid Cellulose Fibre/ Fiber Construction.
Or we could just invent a new phrase:
Cubic cellulose house. :-)
Hmm: how about a whole new word:
Ambergrain house,
based mostly on the Merle Haggard album named 'Amber Waves of Grain'....?
Yeah, I like that one the most, since it strikes me as being romantic
and nostalgic, among other things, so that's my official entry for this
topic.
Ambergrain.
Maybe Rob Tom can tell us how to say straw bale house in Chinese,
something I've been meaning to ask for a while now. Auspicious Tiger
Straw Bale House might be a fun variation.... :-)
Cheers,
Chris Green.
