[Strawbale] Srawbale Resale

Exactly. That is a good point. The difficulty I have is in building custom
homes, i.e. not spec construction, is that I have to explain why the walls
are thick and why they should pay for the added labor of the bales, etc. it
has been a challenge.

I know a fellow who builds passive solar tract homes. He doesn't say a word
about why there isn't a furnace unless someone asks. The houses stand on
their own quite well.

Here's what I have seen while trying to sell 15 straw bale homes in a

99% of the time it is due to lack of knowledge about the building material.
I have found that just getting someone to come look at a home or home site
is difficult with the words straw bale in the sales information. For that
reason, I suggest that people don't push that aspect. Instead, speak of the

beauty of the home, the efficiency, and the other positive aspects. Let
them come and see the home and fall in love. Then when they ask "why are
the walls so thick?" you can explain about the wonders of straw bale
construction. It circumvents the knee jerk reaction. My two cents.

You could post a notice in the classified ad section of The Last Straw
journal - up to 30 words. (first placement is free; subsequent placements
$1/word up to $30).

You could contact the California Straw Building Association (CASBA)
www.strawbuliding.org and they might be able to help you.

You could post to the web site www.greenbuilder.com where there is a green
real estate section.

Just posting to this list will probably help.

I'd appreciate hearing from you, too, as I'm working on an article for The
Last Straw journal about resale of strawbale and natural buildings. Trying
to share information about how to market, price, and work through the
process of selling a strawbale or natural building.
