Andrew,
    The Hardy soffit panels come solid or with ventilation holes and I will 
use the ventilated soffit to enclose the eaves. The open wooden eaves are 
the weak point on this house for wildfires. There's nothing quite as 
frightening as seeing flames 200 ft or so from your house as I did three 
years ago. I've followed the Firewise.org  guidelines for my home and the 
area around it to create a defensible space. Thanks for your concern.
