I think we used to build outdoor walkways and stairs
out of this stuff in California in the mid 1980s. I am
getting to old to remember but I am rubbing some brain
cells together and seeing what appears. We never
installed the material ourselves, there were special
contractors that specialized in it and they were
secretive. They would come and give instructions to
carpenters as to how to build the decks, etc. It was
relitivley light wieght. We only used it outside over
wood; such as wooden stairs and ext plywood walkways
and decks. I think we only used it a few times, but we
advertized that we could repair it where it failed on
older structures. It needed to drain properly or the
wood would rot under it and where railings were
improperly installed or where termites had eaten the
supporting members.
Perhaps some other products came out that were better
at doing what it did? Tourch down modified bitumen
that could be covered with any topping, portland
cenemt, clay roof tiles, ceramic tile or what have
you.
Is tourched down modified bitumen still concidered a
good water proofing technique for roofs, decks and
shower pans? is there something better? What would you
use to waterproof an ext plywood deck. Is there
something to use other than plywood and MDF or what
ever it is called. I would like the deck not to drip
underneeth.
