Hi Chris,

Have you read about eco-cement.  It's based on magnesium oxide.  See 
www.tececo.com

I've tried using eco-cement instead of Portland to stabilize mud 
bricks.   Seems to need only half to two-thirds of eco-cement to get 
a similar result.  The mag oxide seems to grab clay very quickly as 
the mix gets very sticky within five minutes.
