I'm with Jill. My woodstove cost $1500 not including chimney. My
backup radiant heating system cost $1200 including heat source. Yes,
it is not to heat the house (except in unusual circumstances), but
rather to satisfy the mortgage broker, but I suspect it is one of the
cheapest means to meet that end.
They can of course be expensive (as can anything), but they don't need
to be.
