The discussion of straw / clay slip construction brings to mind the
papercrete articles I have read and various other systems that people
have experimented with. There seems to be a resistance to cement by
some people obsessed with embodied energy, but personally I find it a
more desirable material to work with than clay slip. The straw / clay
slip system is very similar to the papercrete system but uses clay
rather than cement........ There would appear to be no reason not to
resort to cement rather than clay slip, and cement will set up more
rigidly and firmly though it might not bond as well..... I don't know
about bond. Then there is the lime stucco / cement lime stucco /
synthetic stucco, etc.... possibility.

My thinking on this whole thing is that perhaps if a system such as
straw / clay slip is to be used that perhaps other trash could be mixed
in as well........ shredded paper, cardboard, Styrofoam packing, egg
cartons, "peanuts", and troublesome bureaucrats and politicians (the
latter two might create an undesirable miasma unless freeze dried) to
form "trashcrete" blocks.

                                 H.W.
