Hello Spierag and Kathy. Thank you, Kathy, for pursuing the question. That was another great Spierag answer and I learned the glass was soft and silky (might put some in my pillow). And it was mentioned the glass was made of silica, but it was not mentioned what the plastic was made of. Well it is made in large part of carbon, same as the straw. The problem with plastic is it is mostly forever, such as diamonds, which are also made of carbon, pure carbon. Interestingly, pretty much the only other element that could support life such as on earth, besides carbon, is silica. So the debate, such as it is one, glass versus plastic, silica versus carbon, is a strange one. Perhaps it will come to fruition when some silicaceous aliens finally contact us.
