Hi David,
I agree with you about hardy plank siding and add that
hardy plank is similar to papercrete, which might be a
do it yourself project for the very ambitious DIYer
who is willing to workout how to keep it from molding.
As far as the insulation being added to exterior vs
the interior, that just depends on how he is going to
do it. I did not read the post very carefully, perhaps
he is doing on the outside as you suggest. I think
some buildings are built too close to their neighbors
to do it on the outside.
Also when adding it to the outside, the eve
(sp)/overhang can be impacted in an awkward manor.
