Bamboo is cool. From what I've read about it, it grows fast, is quite
strong, and harvesting has low impact.

Where wouldI get construction grade bamboo in Alberta?

There are a couple of varieties whose roots are hardy enough to
overwinter here, but the culms die back. It can get large enough for
making marker sticks, but not greenhouse frames.

Bamboo has the same issues of rot in warm humid air as wood.
