I'm not quite sure why this Euro-sourced mail (appended below)came to me
rather than the List since it does contain thread-relevant/useful info but
I'll assume it's because the OP preferred to remain a nonny mouse, so
respecting that assumption:

Thanks for stepping in and informing guys on correct zero energy
practice in Isreal. Isreal can get cold but to just below freezing in
places like Golan or Jerusalem for a short periode around end Dec/ Jan
but thats about it. To support the case for zero energy houses is the
widespread use of solar water heaters. I think Isreal is most probably
the leading country in the world for the use of these systems. Near
where my niece lives in Jerusalem nearly every house has one and I
expect nearly every plumber can install one. So I expect solar heating
would work very well even in a moderately insulated house. Overheating
is a much bigger issue.
Your resume on concrete slabs was right to the point specifically what
you said about water. I read some mails which made my stomach wrench.
Thanks for stepping in.
Which leaves me to wish you a very pleasant 2008.

Merci. Et tu.
I would only add that 2008 cannot be anything but a Gr8 year IMO (ie far
more than just "pleasant") and I extend that wish to y'all.
