This is pretty much what I was thinking; unmanaged
thermal mass coupling in a climate that requires more
heating than cooling in terms of annually energy
consumption is not wise, however if thermal mass is
managed such as you suggest, if your system works,
fantastic.

This is a repeat of part of my point about concrete vs
wood floors, that I am still unsure about, that is the
wisdom or lack there of, of a below grade,
unventilated pressure treated, no crawl space unearth
coupled, 2x6 floor joist, insulated bay, wood floor. I
wanted an exterior masonry walk way 1/2” lower than
the interior finished floor, so relative to the
masonry elevation, the wood floor would be lower. I
was thinking of installing the masonry on drain gravel
and waterproofing the foundation and then I am little
lost as to how to transition between the wood and
masonry.
I noticed the building code book shows ways to build
to a wood foundation. The exterior walkway would be
covered with an 8' wide covered porch that would have
a 4' further overhang roof eve detail. The exterior
ground could have an underground perimeter membrane to
divert rain water away. I am also considering a dry
well to run perforated pipe drain into because I don't
have enough elevation differential to drain to.
Location; lower elevation wet north west US (not
alaska)
